You can also take an internship somewhere even if you’re just figuring out what it is you want to do. Many people do this just to test the waters, if they have more than one career’s interest or if they even like the job they’re studying for. 8. Spend time with family

If you find that your reason for taking a gap year in the first place was to slow down, recharge and to go back to those things are are truly important in life, it is defintely worth spending this time with your family, friends and community as a whole.

I found in my gap year I connected more and grounded myself by doing more with those around me as i used all the free time i had to spend more with my loved ones doing daily activities, trips out or even just enjoying their company at home.

    9. Volunteer within your community

If you don’t want to travel, spend a lot of money, work or gain work experience, you may want to consider volunteering within your community, close to home.

There is always something to help out with, a charity asking for volunteers or events that need a helping hand from others. It’s a great way to spend up your time whilst also giving back to your community and helping others.

    10. Do whatever you want

The best feeling you’ll get out of taking a gap year is realising you now have all the free time you could possibly want. You have full control over your life and most of all your time. It gives complete freedom and at first alot of people struggle to handle this, I know I did.

However I personally tackled this by creating a detailed plan, writing down all my goals that I wanted to achieve then got out there, got active and got busy.

Many people mistake gap year’s as a year of relaxation and a turning away from all responsibilities, when this can’t be further away from the truth.

You may want to relax and simply do nothing, that is perfectly okay if that is your goal.

However, to make the most of your gap year and to get the most out of it, my advice would be to get stuck in and as quickly as you can without any doubts! Maybe choose 3 main ‘projects’ or activities you want to try and go 100% in, what have you got to loose? Your gap year is about discovering yourself and what you truly enjoy. It’s a rare opportunity to live life on your terms, so why not make the most of it.
