My Daily Spiritual Routine: Rituals I Use For A Healthier And Softer Cycle

By Lydia Lawrence

Navigating the ups and downs of your menstrual cycle can sometimes feel overwhelming, but what if I told you that syncing your daily routine to your body’s natural rhythms could transform your well-being?

Over time, throughout my journey, I've developed many spiritual practices and routines that have helped me connect more deeply with my cycle, helped me to balance my energy, and feel more in tune with myself.

From mindfulness exercises to nourishing meals, my daily rituals have become the foundation of a healthier, richer more harmonious cycle.

In this post, I’ll guide you through the exact practices I use to support both my body and spirit throughout the month, helping you feel empowered and connected on your own spiritual journey to becoming your best version of yourself!

So, let’s dive straight into it; here are my personal spiritual routines I personally do for a softer and healthier cycle each month and also why you should start making your own rituals today …

Benefits to creating daily rituals

A recent study done by Harvard University shows that rituals are a big part of our lives whether we consciously notice them or not, researchers conducted a study that resulted in 79% of people stating that they take part in a daily morning ritual before work which helps them become more organised and sets a positive tone throughout their day.

The main benefits of these daily morning rituals were:

  • A reduce of overall stress levels

  • Increase of focus and mental clarity

  • Increase of self awareness, positivity and motivation

These daily rituals can also be applied to a morning mindfulness spiritual routine. Practices such as; meditation, stretching, yoga and journaling all work to prepare for the stressful days, weeks or even months ahead

  1. Morning Meditation; setting the tone for your day

The Harvard study also conducted and found that what you do at the start of each day is possibly the number one most important thing to be mindful of.

I start each day with a quiet moment of mindfulness. Meditation helps me tune into my body’s needs, allowing me to release any tension and let any negative emotions go, instead I set positive intentions and remind myself of them throughout my day.

Focus on your breath, visualise a calm space or place and repeat a positive affirmation that resonates most with you. I find this practice helps reduce my stress, helps me breath better and helps me focus whenever i’m distracted. If you're new to meditation, start small, just five minutes can work the same as 10 - 15.

Pro Tip: I love using meditation apps like Headspace or Insight Timer, especially for guided sessions that focus on the feminine menstrual cycle.

2. Cycle Syncing: Understanding the Power of my Body's Natural Rhythms

One of the most empowering things I’ve incorporated into my routine is tracking my cycle. Knowing where I am in my cycle helps me adjust my energy levels, nutrition, and even my daily self-care routines.

For example, during my follicular phase (right after my period), I feel more energetic and social, so I plan more active or creative tasks. Moreover, throughout my luteal phase (before my period) is a time for rest, reflection. So, I then carry out reflective tasks to help me wind down and prepare for my next upcoming cycle.

Pro Tip: Apps like Clue, Notion or Flo make tracking your cycle tracking journey super easy!

I also journal daily, jotting down my energy levels, emotions, and any physical symptoms.

3. Eating Nourishing Meals: Supporting my hormonal Health by maintaining a healthy diet

Food plays a huge role in how I feel throughout my cycle. I focus on nutrient-dense meals that are rich in healthy fats, protein, and fibre’s.

Foods such as; leafy greens, berries, seeds, avocados, salmon, tuna, rice and are staples in my weekly diet.

Also, eating in sync with my cycle has made a world of difference. I have personally found that following a diet in accordance to each separate cycle phase has improved my overall energy levels, and as a bonus I experience fewer PMS symptoms.

Pro Tip: I swear by seed cycling, where I add specific seeds (like flax and pumpkin during the first half of my cycle, and sesame and sunflower seeds during the second half) to support optimal hormonal balance. It’s an easy and natural way to help your body thrive!

4. Being kinder and softer with my body: optimising self care during my cycle

Many of us indulge into a self care routine every-week, perhaps you dedicate one day to completely optimising your self care, maybe you apply a face mask, make your favourite beverage and then perhaps putting your feet up to watch your favourite movie.

Whilst this is an amazing way to relax and shake off all of your stress that you carried throughout the week, why stop there?

Like mindset and mindfulness coach and podcaster Mikayla Jai says; “alot of us merely take care of ourselves through self care, what are the deeper ways in which you can take care of yourself more deeply?

Think of ways you can optimise this self care routine throughout your weeks and monthly cycle ?

I personally like to start with a quick full body massage moving from my neck and shoulders all the way down to my stomach and feet, giving myself this extra care allows me to not only connect more deeply with my body, but it also releases any excess tension built up throughout my muscles.

I then take a nice relaxing bath, putting a few essentials oils and salts in. I like to use this time to also nourish my hair by applying a hair mask or oil, letting it soak into my scalp and ends.

While in the bath, I exfoliate with my favourite body scrub, removing dead skin and excess dirt, for a more refreshed feel. Using this time, perhaps in an evening or before bed allows me to take care and connect more deeply having more appreciation for myself and my routines.

6. Moon Rituals: Tapping Into Lunar Energy

This might sound a little “woo-woo,” but I swear by moon rituals! The moon has a powerful effect on our bodies, and I’ve found that syncing my spiritual routine with the moon’s phases helps me feel more aligned to my feminine cycle.

For example, during the new moon, I set intentions for the month ahead. On full moons, I focus on releasing what no longer serves me whether that’s a limiting belief, a toxic habit, or simply pent up stress.

Pro Tip: You don’t need to overcomplicate moon rituals. Lighting a candle, setting an intention, or meditating under the moonlight are beautiful ways to start.

It’s clear that by building a weekly and monthly spiritual routine that aligns with my cycle, it has transformed how I connect with my body and how I navigate each daily routine during my daily life.

Not only do these rituals help my routines, but they also help me to connect more deeply with my daily menstrual cycle. It’s not just a physical process, all of these daily rituals come together as guide that invites self discovery, reflection, and empowerment.

By syncing with your body’s natural rhythms, listening to your cycle and practicing deep self care and mindfulness, you can bring more joy, health, and meaning into your every day life.
